Looking at that chap's beard of microphones and iphones got me wondering

Do people still cultivate a beard of bees anymore? I'm pretty sure it used to be a big thing back in the day. Barely a week would go by without some prick with a beard of bees gracing the screens during one of the popular magazine shows on the telly.
