He attempted to knock down the player from behind, not get the ball. Attempting to physically attack a player sounds like the definition of violent to me.

And caused him what might be a serious injury at a critical time in a young man’s career.

Was pretty dumb IMO. If he’d succeeded it would have been a pen and a sending off within the first few minutes. Better just to let him score without the violence.
