Th'Athletic... seems Saints in the same position (or even worse) re: coverage

As MB was at yesterday's match thought there would be a report today (I presume there will be one tomorrow). Thought I'd check to see if there was one from Saints perspective but also nothing. They put this statement on last Monday to answer the questions they were getting from Saints fans after coverage suddenly stopped:

Hi there, Southampton fans,

Sorry for the delay on keeping you up to date regarding our coverage since Jacob Tanswell switched roles.

I have seen a few questions, understandably, about The Athletic and Southampton with Jacob moving to other duties for us and the club no longer in the Premier League (hopefully only temporarily!).

We are going to run a bit of a hybrid system this season, due to the sheer volume of games and a drop-off in interest from subscribers in recent months. We still really want to cover the big Southampton moments that matter and provide stories that you can’t find anywhere else but 46 league games plus the cup ties is not the approach we are going to take.

We are already planning some really interesting in-depth pieces on Russell Martin’s style of football and what all this possession means for the team. And we will be at some games too. Plus Jacob, Dan Sheldon and David Ornstein will keep you up to date on key transfers when they get information.

So, a bit less content for now but hopefully the things you do read, you’ll love. And we hope you still see us as the best place for in-depth Southampton coverage.

And in the meantime, we hope you enjoy our coverage of other EFL clubs, plus the Premier League, Champions League, La Liga, England and much more.

Alex
