Barnes would have been offside if the parry from the keeper went straight to him

He’s not offside because it goes to Sargent who was onside who then passes the ball backward to Barnes who is then onside.

See the Arsenal goal against us two seasons ago and Isaks goal for Newcastle yesterday. The latter, checked by VAR,is a clear example of the rule.
