How far do you take the ‘stay in your lane’ argument? Social media has allowed everyone a platform. So its ok for moron from moronsvillie to spout absolute nonsense on any topic Twitter but people who are well known should only have opinions on their own narrow field? Should none of us have a public opinion on football because we are all mostly s**t at it?
Picking up the energy policy example: there are huge disagreements how we should decarbonise. Should we use nuclear? Hydrogen? Can carbon pricing work effectively? Saying 'trust the experts' is a ridiculously simplistic take, which ignores the fact scientists have their own values and positions. It also ignores the way in which policy gets made, which is messy and shaped by vested interests.
Finally, punching down on Greta Thunberg for simply trying to echo the messages from the EXPERT IPCC is also a contradiction and a s**tty look. The climate crisis is real and it is serious. Heat waves and temperature records being broken all over the world. Unprecedented warming in the Atlantic Ocean. We are still in drought in Norfolk. The next 18 months are going to be very interesting and I think anyone who is complacent or in denial is going to start looking pretty stupid.
If there is a problem in the world then it is one of deliberate misinformation, a corporate focused media, and a politics that is not up to purpose in dealing with the complex challenges that we face. Not Carol Voderman.
