Stats can be very useful obvs

But they're rarely the whole picture and can be completely misleading (I give you graeme hick eg) - so as long as you don't become over reliant and unthinking, all fine, just another tool. Some in the footy context I think are pretty useless - eg xgoals, if you've actually been to a game and know anything at all about footy, is pointless and often seems basically wrong (whereas even if you've been at a game it would still be interesting to know where a player had been/how many tackles etc)
