While Gediminas was in charge, Lithuania encompassed much of modern Ukraine

Including Kyiv (not Kiev - Russian spelling) and Odessa - hence the Lithuanian support for Ukraine at this time. This was circa 1300 BC but Lithuania was basically the largest country in europe at that time.
