I use one of the drip filters

Which, imo makes a nicer mug of coffee.

I also have a stove top espresso maker (stainless) which makes a nice espresso.

Both are less faff (and take up less counters pace) than a machine.

As others have said, grinding your own beans fresh makes more difference to my palate than the method too.
