I was also very disappointed with the tactics after tea yesterday

We had our best session of the day in the hour or so before tea. Took a couple of wickets and things were starting to happen for the bowlers. They were bowling s better length snd getting s bit of seam movement.

Then we came out after tea and bowled Leach for about 15 consecutive overs at one end whilst the fast bowlers bowled bouncers at the other end with 4 men back on the leg side boundary. For about a hour. It was passive tactics and it let the two currently in play themselves in and get into the 30s with minimal threat to worry about. Ok I know if Root holds that easy catch before tea it’s different game but after that we just let them score 100 easy runs to take the game away. I had hoped we’d seen the end of this short bowling tactic nonsense but it seems not.

The decision at the toss was wrong but can see why they were fooled. Pitch looked a bit green and it was cloudy plus obviously Williamson was out. But within 2 overs you could see everything was hitting the middle of the bat and there was decent bounce and carry.

It’s a shame we don’t have any of our 90mph plus bowlers fit as I think with the bounce there is they could have made a difference.
