I'd love to know what their motivation is

Money will be an aspect, but not necessarily the whole picture- might be anything from laundering to a long held love of English soccerball or that quaint delusion amongst some americans that they're actually from the place a handful of their ancestors left 150 years ago (c.f. joe biden)
