Supporters do need to think about how their actions can affect players.

However, we were SO FUCKING DREADFUL FOR THE ENTIRE SEASON, so some 'humorous' chanting is hardly a hanging offence.

It almost entirely remained sarcastic rather than toxic, or unpleasant so I think we need to get a little perspective here.
