He’s certainly quite subdued.

Two years ago he was bullish and repeatedly demanded that supporters blame him for what went wrong. This time… it’s all rather different isn’t it?

Supporters and the local media are repeatedly kicked (until – rather weirdly towards the end – he then suggests that there is a great togetherness) and there’s a proper vagueness about recruitment, when in previous seasons he’s been quite specific about what went right and what went wrong.

“Everything needs to work to stay up”. Does it? If two or three signings had done a really good job, that probably would have sufficed? Quite a lot of deflection and puff too. “That’s football”, “Let’s believe” and a broad suggestion that all that really matters is that we continue to exist.

I really don’t want to totally monster him but it’s all just rather unsatisfactory. I certainly don’t come away from it feeling renewed or enthused an it’s hard to shake the feeling that he may well be in the same place.
