The club is de facto run by a married couple, largely providing each other’s peer scrutiny/challenge. Together they have overseen one of the most shambolic seasons in our history, on and off the field (so many things to be listed here, but let’s not bother). Lots of senior people have left, so it’s not obvious who is actually leading/responsible for anything. We now have a choice of giving the Ward/Webber the keys to the castle for another season, or sacking the pair of them and ….yeah, then what? Who takes over? Is there anybody in the building capable of running a whelk stall? Are there any credible succession plans for anyone? Any that could be acted on in the blink of an eye, so that a critical summer can be properly led? Feels unlikely.
So either we clear the slate and have a summer of zero leadership in the club. Or we double down on W&W and hope Mr and Mrs Brent can sort out the toxic chemical tip they have created.
Rock, meet Mr Hardplace.
(I may need to avoid any coverage of today, if I’m in this bad a mood already.)
