All the refs can do is apply offside protocols correctly

There’s no room for objectivity or being lenient.

Can definitely use the incident as a criticism of VAR laws but don’t see how the refereeing can be slated as it was by the book

Can’t recall if the lines were touching, but they do give that as the benefit of the doubt to the attacker now.

There do seem to be a lot fewer complaints about offside decisions lately
