From what I can gather from Scouse mates, also:
* Anti-monarchy, anti-royalist sentiment (historically many Irish immigrants/people with Irish heritage in Liverpool)
* Association of royalty with the establishment - Tories epitome of establishment
* Strong history of socialism (particularly the more Trot variety) in Liverpool (and historically with the football club) - committed socialists (as in the ones to the far left of the current Labour Party) are generally republicans
Personally I wouldn’t boo the anthem, but I wouldn’t sing it either for a variety of reasons (I don’t believe in the monarchy, it’s a dirge etc). If they want to boo it, fair enough - free speech/free expression and all that. The whole culture war thing is tiresome in the extreme - zealots on both sides need to ignore the constant attempts to inflame it by those who seek to divide us and focus on the real issues (and there are sadly plenty of those)
