Watching Everton and Leeds, both getting loads of bookings/reds, I see a common theme

They are both clubs that have very deliberately stoked up a febrile, frenzied atmosphere at their recent games. No doubt this was done intimidate the opposition and the ref, and to pump up the players to the max, seeking what might be a critical advantage. But it looks to me like it's backfired on them in at least some games.

I thought the Everton players made some really dumb decisions, and seemed to have quite a few red mist moments. They were so keen to get stuck in, it actually led to them taking poor decisions. In contrast, Brentford were fully committed but always in control.

Leeds players have also been making some awful challenges of late. Ayling (remember that tackle vs us?) and James both seemed so adrenaline fuelled that they made stupid, reckless, wild challenges. It has definitely been part of Leeds's approach this year. They have been a bit wild and dirty all season, but last few games they seem to have really turned that up.

It's a fine balancing act between "fired up" and "out of control", and both these clubs have recently been the wrong side of that line. I think they've deserved everything they've got as a result.
