Agreed, and it seems clear once Emi was sold Webber believed the system needed changes

And recruited in that fashion instead of looking for a direct replacement. Arguably if we'd recruited a replacement and failed again this season (likely) there'd be a lot less scrutiny on Webber. It's the overhaul of the squad that has created this calamity of a season.

Smith a full year on from losing Buendia has acknowledged we lack creativity but Farke was happy to go into the season trying to change his successful formula. Farke really should've stuck to his guns and believed in his system that had resulted in two promotions. It's where the Sporting Director model falls down.
