Special Administration with taxpayers underwriting the losses until either costs fall or price cap increases to cover the costs

(then, instead of holding a profitable company until such losses have been recouped, Govt will no doubt flog it as soon as they can to mates & donors)

The more interesting question for me is at what point does fuel poverty start materially affecting the middle classes such that this govt will start to actually give a s**t about it, and what will they then do about it.

A completely pulled out of my arse theory is that we'll see a further subsidy that will knock X off bills but repaid through a levy over the next Y years. In any event high energy bills will be here for a looooong while yet, even if wholesale prices fall.
