If I was them

(and assuming that, like them, I wasn't overly desperate to flog it to the highest bidder, which is a big assumption as it's absolutely what I'd have done last time we got promoted)

I would sack it all off into a trust with current owners all trustees for life, and a dozen randomly selected season ticket holders as trustees on a revolving basis each year.

(Or otherwise somehow make it a proper fan-owned club.)

Then we can all share the pain of being poor owners of a football club trying to compete at the top level, and we'll have no-one else to blame but ourselves if we select the wrong manager / SD / chief scout etc etc.

Or we'll have no-one else to blame but ourselves if the Trust decides to flog it to some spiv investor*.

The current owners must be gluttons for punishment, or really holding on to the prospect of extracting mega cash if/when it's finally sold.
