I used to understand this very well indeed, but now I see incidents and call it one way or the other, and then often discover that I am in fact totally wrong. Then I usually receive some long explanation, about phases or something. After which I say “oh, I see”. Usually I am then none the wiser, and struggle to distill any particular learning to help me get better at working out what offside means next time. I don’t consider myself a stupid person, but I don’t get it.
Bamford was clearly offside. And im struggling to understand who anyone can think he wasn’t. But apparently, he wasn’t offside. And I’m talking s**t.
Oh, I see.
