Obviously morally we hold the high ground being owned by Delia and in an ideal world that would enable us to be competitive. But it doesn't.
In an ideal world I'd prefer a clean "billionaire" to a dodgy one (not that i suspect there are many).
But we don't live in an ideal world and also attitudes to Russia and Russian's have changed markedly in the space of 2 months.
But I find it very hard to believe that if you said to most football fans 25 years ago "ok you can either:
(i) be owned by Abramovich for 25 years and win the premier league 5 times, the FA Cup 5 times, the Europa League twice, the Champions League twice and the league cup 3 times and then it might go a bit pear shaped for a while; or
(ii) You can be owned by Delia Smith for 25 years and finish 11th in the premier league as your best finish, get relegated 5 times but have 6 promotions;"
that the vast, vast, majority would not go for option 1.
The answer to that question might be different now to what it was 25 years ago and perhaps that is the hope if there is a sizeable shift in attitude within the game but we would have absolutely loved experiencing the success that Chelsea have over Ambramovich's ownership and I very much doubt you'd have too many fans complaining about his murky past too much.
