As mentioned previously I think he is a very ethical guy.....

and that forms the major reason for his decision..... But I think a minor consideration is also the fact they wouldn't be getting paid (or at least no way to transfer the money back home)
Also you have to think the overall value of their contracts is plummeting as the currency tanks.
