The point is that Farke is working in a country led by people who think it's OK to wage a war of aggression on a neighbouring country which has done nothing to provoke them, so as to topple a democratic government and replace it with a puppet, and actually threaten to nuke anyone who tries to stop them.
Farke now has a choice as to whether to carry on working in that country or not. I would regard it as pretty shabby if he did.
The more non-Russians who make moral gestures like that the more chance there is that ordinary Russians will understand that the outside world regards their leadership as beyond the pale.
