'Boris' is (or at least used to be) a character that Johnson played as a means of making

himself popular.

As for other leaders, do you really refer to Blair as just 'Tony'? Even Thatcher and Churchill are more known by their surname rather than the forename, whereas the opposite is true for Johnson.
