to stay put and fight from one of those with Geeerrrmans coming up the beach or across the fields. Spent my childhood playing in them at Eccles (my father built a bungalow there after the '53 floods) with a friends all with toy guns. Whilst being a relatively brave person I think I'd have emptied my small magazine out of the 303 (I'm old enough to have gained a First Class in the CCF with the old SMLE) and then legged it westwards as fast as my legs would take me.
