tbh I don't know how closely it follows the character in the books - it's a long time since I read any Clancy and I don't really remember the character. But if you watch it expecting it to be part of that whole family you might be disappointed, idk.
If you watch with no expectations and just look at it as a modern TV show set in that world (and it just happens to share the character names) it's quite fun.
My father was a spook and he didn't 'hate' it, which means it's not accurate enough for the inaccuracies to be galling but it's equally not so ridiculous that it's unwatchable.
It's not high brow stuff - bit like a glossier and more fun version of, say, mid-life Homeland. And the lead isn't anywhere near as irritating...(!)
