In old money only works in a very few situations

metric measures, temperature conversion are about the only ones I can think of and most generations after mine have grown up with both and would not need to make the mental conversion. I don't even do it myself, now.

As for currency conversion, only really used to make an exaggerated/faux outraged point about inflation - ten shillings for a ...!

By the way, did you see the BBC are putting some of their podcasts exclusively on BBC Sounds for 28 days. Now that is something I am really annoyed about.
