they'll roll into eastern Ukraine to shore up their land links to the Crimea and call it a day. They won't go further than the territory that's already under the control of the separatists, so it'll just formalise the status quo

Putin gets his victory, the West can portray it as a sort of victory, and the Ukrainian Govt won't be (much) worse off and we'll chuck them hush money
