Feels like bad man management again altho there were signs through the Ashes that Root / Jimmy / Stuart were not pulling in the same direction.
If that's the case I wonder if Strauss has 'taken one for the team' in this, Root gets a chance to show he can captain a side to victory in the WI without his two best pace bowlers (we've not won out there in ages, have we?).
Strauss gets painted as the bad guy - the new management team can then take a view based on what is learned from this series.
Broad and Anderson are reminded they're not undroppable, Root essentially has a short, winnable series to show that he shouldn't be new broomed away too. They all get a break from each other...
Broad spoke eloquently and cleverly out in Australia - personally I reckon he makes sense as the next captain in line. But if there's a feeling he's been undermining Root (our best/only batsman) I can see why they opted not to make this swap.
Potentially I'm giving Strauss too much credit, but I do think he's happy to take the unpopular decisions for the longer term good.
Problem really is that Root should have been rotated out of being captain quite a while ago...
