I wondered partly if that was because Farke wanted ball retention at all costs? And that he wasn't encouraged to be braver?

If he'd done enough for Smith to give him a chance, you'd think he would have been encouraged to be more positive when opportunity allowed.

On the other hand, maybe he was under Farke but doesn't have that in his arsenal?

As I said, I'm no expert. But I've watched a lot of Norwich players over the years, and with some it's very obvious they've got it (Emi, Madders, Ashton, Bellamy), in others it's not so obvious but there is signs that they could be special. Cantwell definitely in the latter camp. And even then the signs are not very clear to me.
