I can set the points in a car using just chalk, a strobe, and some metal things

The last time I attempted this I tried and failed to locate said points for much longer than I care to admit. The kind chap at the garage almost didn't snigger at all when explaining that cars didn't have points in any more. This was back in the '90s.
