When I was (literally) weighing up what to get I decided that I wanted something neat and portable that I could take up to the darker skies north of Cardiff if I wanted to do some DSO chasing.

Borrowing a couple of equatorial mounts highlighted that I didn't have the time or patience to set up/cool down those kind of scopes and lug what are quite bulky bits of kit around.

For eyesight viewing even the big dobs only really yielded smudges for that kind of thing.

The imagers were doing great stuff (and this was over a decade ago). It's amazing what you can do with that stuff - but again, being a new father, I concluded I wasn't going to spend ages doing that stuff.

Kudos if you give it a go tho. Would be interested to see the results!
