But ignores the strength of the tier below that in Australia, the fact that Cricket is much more prominent there than in the UK and that, when Australia went through their ropey patch and we won there, they suggested that they needed a set up more like ours.

If the talent does agglomerate in the top tier of a six team county championship league that approximates what Australia does much more closely than simply destroying a bunch of smaller county sides (who have often provided the development/route for successful test players far more effectively than the bug sides that would be left).

People were appalled by the idea of the ESL but don't seem as bothered about the casual destruction of cricketing infrastructure based no more on the whim and Musings of gobs for hire like Vaughan.

(I'm a Worcestershire fan, so I hope you all will forgive me for a grumpy response to the casual dismissal of my team to the bin of history on the basis of massively shaky reasoning).
