I think Gilmour attracts it for various reasons

Unconnected with his actual contribution - he's a Chelsea player not ours; their fans and the media go on about what a terrific little gem he is; slight feeling we're being taken for a ride by the big boys in playing him. His actual play is pedestrian but no worse than others.
