There's been loads of stuff discussed about buying the wrong players etc but, for me, the complete abandoning of the formation which brought us such success is baffling.
As you've pointed out, that made it essential for us to get the Skipp replacement right.
I wonder if we really did expect him to return, but even if that was the case it seemed strange - what if he got injured?
I can see the point in developing a 4-3-3 formation and a 5-3-2(wingbacks) to give us options, but we seem to have ditched the system the players had had drilled into them for three years.
All very odd.
