Because of all the one day games that are packed in the calendar to make money

They aren't allowed time off (or low key/low pressure warm up games) which would make them better prepared because those things don't make money. Of course the players themselves are happy to take that money - they'd probably rather be s**t in the Ashes and get well paid than be well rested/prepared for them and get paid less...
