No, not in the long term

Call it tinpot if you like, but I’m ok with going up and coming down if it could also have a smattering of spells where we’re up more than one season.

I love our club, I don’t want it to lose its identity, which again is a bit tinpot. However I’m speaking as someone that isn’t a fan of the modern football money machine.

I think there is scope for our budget to deliver more effective PL football, I doubt Brentford have spent more. But I’m conscious that there is scope for things to be a lot worse.

If we go back 15 / 20 years, you would not have predicted the divergence of us and Ipswich in the period that followed. All of that has been driven by better management of our club compared to theirs, the difference is gigantic, and has occurred when they’ve had a lot more cash pumped in by owners than we have.

Maybe there is a better model out there, but none are without risk, and I like ours enough, even with the relative s**t of this season, to be ok with sticking with it. It might be a different story if we were languishing in the championship with 25k attendances and unable to finance a proper promotion push - maybe that will follow, but I’m hopeful we’ll continue to make enough good decisions that it won’t for a good while yet.
