"The civil servant tasked with investigating claims of a Christmas party at Downing Street last year held his own office party the day before. Simon Case, the cabinet secretary, attended a Christmas party with a team of his officials on December 17 last year. The event, in room 103 of the Cabinet Office, began at 5:30 pm and was listed in digital calendar invitations as “Christmas party!”
It was organised by a private secretary in Case’s team. Household mixing was banned in London at the time.
The party took place the day before the alleged Christmas party in Downing Street, whose recent emergence has caused serious political difficulties for Boris Johnson. Officials and advisers are said to have made speeches, handed out prizes for good work, enjoyed a cheese board and drank together until 2am."
