This is about the full SC at the end I think, Lewis could have pitted on the lap after Max

but he would have come out in 2nd with no guarantee a) that the race would restart or b) that he could then pass Max on track.

I think Merc made the right calls on tyres, it was just extremely bad luck (plus RD incompetence) how everything transpired.
