The rules don’t really apply to the Big Six

cf McTommy not getting booked when he made two clear yellow card tackles relatively close together. And tons of other examples. Thus it ever was in the Prem.

From the very start the manure players were in the refs face. I mean really all the time. Ref! Ref! Ref! He stole my toy! It’s pathetic but there is a clear cumulative effect which is why they do it. It’s absolutely hateful and symptomatic of the modern culture of trying to win by bending the rules/officiating in your favour, rather than regarding them as neutral, uncontrollable elements which form a backdrop to the actual sporting performance which is what you (should!) actually win and lose from.

The inevitable horrible conclusion is that we should be doing a lot more of this. Also a lot more simulation (take a bow Todd you did step up there yesterday, in the one moment I remembered you were on the pitch). And it’s something I literally hate to say and to see. But then I’m very old and doubtless very naive.
