It's what I like to call the "easy fix syndrome".

Fans like to imagine if we could only fix this one little thing everything would be okay/so much better. So they focus on their least favorite player and lay all the team's troubles to that one individual player even though it is massively a team game. A season or two back it was Kenny McLean ignoring the fact that when he came in to the team, the club went on an incredible run that got it promoted. Now a few fans think that if you just pull Sargent everything will be okay even though Rashica has zero goals playing the same position. It's human nature wanting to solve problems with the easiest solution possible. It's just lazy.
