open the windows it gets smoky (in a nice way... if you like the smell of coffee).
I found cooking on high initially until things started to brown and then easing off to release the oils without burning it went pretty well.
It's a bit like making popcorn, as you do get a 'crack' sound as the residual water is released.
Final tip - leave the beans for a day or two after roasting to 'settle'. You can drink it beforehand, but I found the results were a bit 'beany'. (Green coffee beans are a bit like lentils)
