that's not quite fair

if you'd been brought up in Rumania for example, you too would probably have a degree of scepticism about what your government was up to and whether it was wise to trust them

it's partly conditioning - my wife's (Yugoslavian) family still harbours a lingering, visceral suspicion of things Western; in the same way that many in this country would be more nervous if you told them that the vaccine they were to take was Russian, but not to worry, it's all been properly tested
