You're mis-reading it I think! There articles in the WM press that McPhee is staying.

The Athletic article just says that Smith is willing to bring in expertise from outside such as McPhee... Not that McPhee himself is coming...though given he also Scotland's set piece coach it would be really helpful if he came!
