ahem. I think I'd much prefer to have Smith to Lampard

on the basis that he has had some really impressive success as a manger (before things went pear-shaped this year).

But I really don't want either. In particular the thought of appointing Lampard makes me really sad. And makes me wonder what on earth is now going on at the club. Did I massively over-estimate the competence of those in charge, and actually a lot of it was luck? Maybe so.
