… there’s actually no real reason to assume he’d be a failure or a bad appointment. He’s quite an intelligent and thoughtful man; has plenty of experience in the top two divisions, which wasn’t without its successes; connections with players and their agents - this may be handy attracting players who ordinarily might not consider coming here; and it might even influence referees to give borderline decisions in our favour. Everything so far is conjecture as to what happens next, so I’m not damning anything before it happens.
Personally I’m as sad as anyone to see Farke leave. He gave us an identity and made a lot of supporters realise that there was more to football than putting it in the mixer and 4-4-f**king-2. He always spoke and behaved with integrity and honesty. The epitome of it all, and my favourite memory of us playing under him, was the 4-3 winner against Millwall, from the Krul / Zimmermann fist bump, Leitner not lumping it, Klose and Emi carrying it forward to Mario, who applies the coup de grace with scalpel precision and ice-cool calmness. Proper football and I’ll remember it forever.
