He clearly thought that Daniel couldn’t prevent relegation this season and that we would have better chance of survival with someone new in.
It’s his job to make us as competitive as possible on the playing side and, with him thinking that, it would have been reckless and irresponsible for him to continue with Daniel purely out of loyalty. He gets paid big bucks to make horrible, difficult decisions.
But this really hurts. I’ve never been even close to feeling as sad at the departure of a manager as I do this morning. I loved Farke from the outset – he was a breath of fresh air.
I loved that he wanted the team to play exactly how I wanted to see my team play. And that he fully embraced the nurturing and development of youth, along with the trust to play them and they collectively delivered some of the best, scintillating football I’ve ever seen us produce.
His interviews were engaging and interesting but full of humour too and it was clear that he loved us, the club and the County as much as we loved him, he totally bought into us and what we were trying to do. That was priceless for me.
I remember Tombs commenting once how he noticed at the Ipswich away game in Sept 2018 that Farke took a load of time chatting with our disabled away fans and gave them all a great big hug before going off back down the tunnel – he was just a class act as a man.
He was my favourite ever manager and I’m desperately sad that it didn’t ultimately work out with us holding our own in the Prem and building on from that. But I understand why Webber took this decision and as a result I reluctantly and with more than a little guilt agree with it.
For what it’s worth, I have no doubt that Webber and the Board are equally as sad this morning.
Thanks Daniel, you big, lovely, Deutsche legend, you. May you have the very best of luck with whatever you do next x
