What I don’t understand is: Root fell well short in his tactics today

He’s a wonderful batsman( and please can we use that term) but he got sucked in this morning. Bowling at tail- enders Shirley you should be bowling full and at the off stump with pace.
So why didn’t Anderson and Robinson and wood have a quiet word and say ‘look skip, they’re batting at the bottom of the order cos they can’t take pace bowling’.
Root almost single handedly won this Test for England but he also lost it.
