This is just cynical opportunism from Spurs....

They know they are unlikely to make top 4 this season, so it's ok to sack Jose now and take their time to find the right appointment safe in the knowledge Europe awaits thanks to - somehow- being nominated for the Super League ( despite winning the top division the same number of times as Preston, Burnley and Portsmouth).
