effectively closing every TV and radio channel for the rest of the day and then continuing extensive coverage over the weekend and further was excessive and, in my opinion, a defensive reaction to the right wing media who would have pilloried the BBC had they done otherwise – using it as part of their long-term goal of removing the licence fee and thereby undermining the BBC’s funding. A position that many suspect has the support of this government.
So it was not a complaint about the monarchy but the BBCs response to a news story that, while very important, did not warrant the scale of the coverage it got.
Its an opinion - others can see it differently - but I had the opportunity to give the BBC my view as a licence fee payer - so I did.
